Sarasota County Extension
Florida House
The Florida House is a demonstration facility and grounds showcasing energy saving, environmentally friendly, healthy materials and methods currently available to the public. This unique public/private collaboration brings together the best proven sustainable practices within education, government and the private sector to inspire beneficial behavior changes in visitors' personal and professional lives.
More than 200 organizations and individuals came together to open the orignal Florida House in 1994, hosting 10,000 annual visitors through 2007, when it was relocated to make way for the new Suncoast Polytechnical High School. The facility and grounds are currently undergoing a transformation to present the latest products and services available for sustainable living at all life stages.
Florida House's renovation process continues our tradition of bringing together a wide range of community participants. Sponsors, volunteers and community partners are welcome to join us as we gear up for the grand re-opening on Earth Day, April 22, 2010. For more information, contact Nan Summers at: nsummers@scgov.net or (941) 315-0868.
