Florida House Learning Center


The Florida House Learning Center is a model home and landscape featuring readily available environmentally friendly materials and methods for new and existing Florida homes and yards. The house features an energy-saving passive cooling design and many cost-effective and affordable building methods and materials available through off-the-shelf technology.

As of June 30, 2007, The Florida House Learning Center has temporarily closed to the public in order to move to an adjacent location on the Sarasota County Technical Institute Campus.  Please refer to THIS LINK for a Virtual Tour of the Florida House Learning Center.  Thank you for your patience and we hope to see you when we reopen at our new location!

Wonderful things are happening as the planning continues for both the Florida House Green Design Center and its landscape. The new Florida House Foundation Board
has hired an interim director, and is hoping to reopen the house this Fall.

This project is the culmination of a community effort involving contributions by hundreds of organizations, businesses, government agencies and individuals. The project is a joint venture of the UF/IFAS Sarasota County Extension , the Sarasota County Technical Institute, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, and the non-profit Florida House Institute.
